Trevor Havenga - Information Management
Trevor has been an IT enthusiast for well over 30 years with an undiminished passion for database technology and teaching. He graduated from Rhodes University back in 1986 with a B.Sc (Information Processing) and an honours degree in Computer Science, and while early work with IBM mainframes,
Cobol and batch processing was invaluable, his first experience with IBM’s DB2 proved too fascinating to resist.
He has worked across all versions of DB2 on all supported platforms and has been presenting database topics for 22 years. “I clearly remember the first DB2 course I ever gave – I wrote most of it the night before, rushed past the printers and straight into class. There were literally two people on each chair, and no standing room either, but the impact of that course changed me permanently.”
Trevor has continued to lecture since, expanding his portfolio to all Information Management subjects, including Information Server, Guardium and Master Data Management.
He was a regular presenter at the now inactive Gauteng Database User Group which he helped establish. While he still presents the occasional z/OS developer topics, like Cobol and DB2 for z/OS, he is tremendously excited about the role of databases underpinning Analytics, Big Data and IoT in the emerging Information Economy.
